Donald W. Garthe was born in Traverse City, Michigan, and for unknown reasons has been called "Pete" ever since. He graduated from Wayne State University Law School in 1975. 
 
Mr. Garthe is admitted to practice in all Michigan courts, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, and the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the probate, family law, and real estate sections of the State Bar of Michigan, as well as a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association and the Western Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association.

After completion of college, Mr. Garthe worked for the U.S. Government in South America where he learned the Spanish he still speaks.  In addition to working for a private law firm in downtown Grand Rapids, he has served as a referee at the Kent County Family Court, an instructor at the Michigan Judicial Institute, a hearing officer for the Michigan Civil Rights Commission, an arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau, and a commissioner on the Wyoming Planning Commission.

His extensive experience and solo practice since 1988 enables him to provide quality legal services at reasonable rates.
